Amtrak - FOOD SERVICE
I was on the train recently and Amtrak has implemented a policy of "cashless" food service. While I know that during these times of crisis we all need to take measures to protect ourselves, denying people of basic service is not acceptable. I do not have a credit card and have no problem paying for my purchases with cash anywhere I go. When I get to the train and wish to buy a cup of coffee and the person behind the counter says "sorry...credit cards only" I get pretty steamed. I had to starve between Washington and New York. Thank you Amtrak for taking the "Customer" out of "Customer Service"!

Bad experience

Amtrak has a new crop of reservation people when you call 1-800-USA-RAIL, and they don;t know beans! These *** issued me a ticket for a train going the wrong direction. I spoke very clearly that I wanted to go from Philadelphia to New York. The conductor was very nice and assisted me in making the change, but explained that since the people at the phone number are contracted, they have had a lot of problems.

I was traving from Santa Barbara on 3/15/20 on Thruway at 7:35 am and ti was very very cold that so when we gone half was i ask driver to please can u turn heater th ed bud is very COLD been early morning HE REPLIED GO SIT IN THE BACK HERE IN FRONT IT GETS FOGGY and that's damm lies ,i take same route once a month back and forth no one ever said that to me GO SIT IN THE BACK. We pay to ride bus and ride comfortably for 4hrs and I hope u people have talk w him.ma

Website is not intuitive and non functional

I know ecommerce very well. I did a big startup with a complex shopping website so I have experience in web design and user testingb. I fooled with the Amtrak site for 30 minutes and its a complete and utter disaster. It is not at all intuitive and simply isn't functional. Wow is all I can say.

Wail, you know those trains have been subject to sabotage. I can only imagine the horror all of those passengers went through on all of the Amtrak trains that derailed off the tracks. It sounds like that sucks worse than being on a slow moving sardine city Greyhound or stuck next to a Super-Sized slob on an airplane with a screaming infant the entire trip.

Do not except to get a good meal on Amtrak anymore!!! PICNIC TRAIN!!

The Amtrak Rails have cut back on providing customers with the pleasure of riding the train and experiencing the Dining Cart. If you are planning on riding the train, your experience will be like riding on a PICNIC TRAIN. People will start pulling our large Igloo containers and sandwiches. The experience of sitting in the dining cart is no longer. For the 30 hours that my husband and I sat on the train was not what we expected. I will never put myself through that again and the bathrooms on each cart are NOT clean.

I think that Amtrak should have a McDonalds restaurant car on all of it's trains. I am sure that everyone would love eating the delicious fare.But the only issue would be that the greedy mudda fuddas at Amtrak would want to charge three times the normal price for everything, and I am sure that many people would balk at that,

Prepare for the worst

I was riding the Amtrak from Glenview, il. to Redwing, Minnesota a couple of days ago. I paid for a ticket for my King Charles Cavalier ( 13 pounds). After over 4 hours, we were coming into Winona, which is the only stop where passengers can smoke, walk outside a little, or take their dogs out. When we were almost there, I took my sleeping dog out of her carrier and put her on my lap so I could put on her jacket and leash. Along comes conductor Shorter and tells me that because the dog is out of the carrier, I have to leave the train. AND he calls for a police escort! I have to add that getting on the train (I didn’t ask for help) with the dog, carrier, and suitcase was difficult And I accidentally left my purse on the platform. So.....I’m in Winona, without money,phone, or ID. It’s nighttime, there’s no attendant in the station, and I am a 72 year old woman. It took two hours for my friend to get there and then, another two hours to his house. It was a long, horrible day caused by a conductor who hates dogs, women, or both. (As for the purse, a woman on the train with me called her parents who went back to the depot, found my purse and overnighted it.)

That conductor should be fired and you should be awarded $10,000.00 in damages for your pain and suffering and for the rude and disrespectful way that you were treated. Plus you should be given free Amtrak tickets for life in your own private sleeping car whenever available, and you should be free to take along your pooch with you on the trip. Also you should be given a sincere apology.

Website reservation systems doesn't work. Despite having an account for years with all my info, about 1/2 the time I can't get a reservation or my credit card to go through properly. So then I have to call and wait to book via an agent. Last night I wasted over an hour...

Why not just *** a ride on a freight train like the hobos do. Just make sure that you always have a warm coat and a gallon of water with you at all times. And maybe a can of mace to spray on any bulls who may try hassle you.

New Carrolton Maryland, the PG County Homeless Shelter

I take the train pretty frequently. One of the helpful Conductors told me I should write about this experience after I complained to her about it. This station closes on Saturday and Sunday so that the homeless and destitute have a place to sleep. I was walking to my train and saw a man urinating on the wall on a Saturday. He just turned to me and laughed, walked a few steps and laid down to sleep. Completely disgusting! Amtrak needs to reopen this station during the weekends so that there is staff available to make this a decent place to catch a train again!

When is Amtrak going to restore the Kansas City Southern passenger rail service to Lake Charles, Louisiana that they used to have back in the day? I know that they werent the mudda fuddas who operated that service, but they restore passenger service on that route.

I am sorry they are dumping the Dining Car. What a treat the Dining Car was and the food---was great not to mention the excellent staff. The world is going to H.... in a handbasket!

As a cost saving measure, The new CEO of Amtrak has decided that customers would be better served by giving them a cheap box lunch instead of treating them to a classic dining experience. Dining cars have been the staple of an incredible travel experience for many years. Slowly but surely, this idiot is changing Amtrak into an airline...God help us!

Lexi gave shoddy service.

I made train reservations on August 30, 2019. The first agent made incorrect reservations so I had to call again. The second agent making reservation said her name was Lexi. She was not familiar with how to make the reservations. I have to travel by bus to Amtrak station. Amtrak always included this in my reservations. I had to explain this to Lexi giving her the time bus departs etc. (I travel this route often.) I was asking her questions making sure I am understanding her correctly. She got an attitdude. I told her she did not have to get one. While still asking questions, she hung up on me. E-mailed me a reservation that was not thorough and incomplete. if you rate the agent after the call and give all ones, Amtrak rating system will say they had trouble with your survey and hang up. I called Amtrak a third time and FORTUNATELY got a WONDERFUL. agent who was patient, knowledgeable and thorough. She took time to get me on the correct buses trains business class, cabins etc. I rated this agent all 5's and Amtrak accepted the survey. Making reservations recently, I have found Amtrak agents are not as knowledgeable or may not know how to schedule a complete trip. I had to make this reservation THREE times because the first two agents were not knowledgeable and one of them had a bad attitude. The best thing aboit the trip is once you get past scheduling and Greyhound bus, the rest of the trip train ride us AWESOME!!!

Amtrak website is horrendous!!!!!

Never works!! Doesn't take my password and when I request a new one, a reset email never arrives! Wasted time and poor service will sink Amtrak.

AWESOME! Customer Service Employee Divas

On July 19, 2019 I took the 6:42pm AMTRAK train (138) from Baltimore Penn to Philadelphia 30th St Station, Train. Prior to my trip I had a grueling drive from Philly to Bmore to return a rental car. I had not booked a ticket for this particular trip...to focus trying to get to Penn Station. Two female employees assisted me with getting a ticket after being on the train. One of the attendants professionally informed the of Amtrak policies on booking ticket and attendant booked me a reasonable priced ticket. I was able to relax and greatly appreciated getting home to Philly at decent hour. Thank you, Cynthia and Christian

Amtrak suck

On June 8 2019 me in my husband decided to take the train to Miami to catch our flight out the country.Big mistake the train was late to pick us up. It was supposed to be a 20 hr train ride, that was a lie. We boarded the the at 10 at night.we was supposed to be in Miami by 6/9/2019 at 6 our train was leaving at 8 sad to say we ended up getting of the train somewhere in Florida to Uber like 130 to 2 hours to Miami so we wouldn’t miss our plane. Amtrak say the would refund $76 of my money to me not even what we had to paid Uber which was more smh I was ok with even though it took my from my trip. Well now it’s a problem again i called last week when we got back n the country, this week it’s all kind of *** for my money to be returned to my card. This is the first and last time we will ever ride a train

Well, it could have been worse. You could have taken the Greyhound Bus. I have known many passengers (myself included) who were so disgusted with everything that they got off of the bus and hitch-hiked the rest of the way to their destination, and got there alot quicker than if they had stayed on that dog.
