The main engine broke down and was really late leaving Chicago and another car had to be replaced also.

Impossible to get a refund

I purchased a ticket for my nephew online, I accidentally sent it to the wrong email, called to try and get it rectified, needless to say I was on the phone 2 separate times for a total of 90 minutes. The first time I bever got to speak to anyone. The second time I was told that my nephew was a no show, I explained what happened and was informed that it was doubtful I would get my money back and I would have to send an email. That was on Monday I am still waiting for a response. Nice to know that 151.00 is no big deal to them. I am beyond livid yes in part it was my fault, I feel they need a better system in place because their site is clear as mud!

Bad service

Traveled from Jacksonville to Tampa ( Silver Star). Late leaving station....late tranferring track near Kissime to from CSX lines. Late for a mexical issue of passenger, ...late entering Tampa terminal. 2 hours 45 minutes late in total. No apology, no refund, no comp or discounts for poor service. Crazy late service is not acceptable. The mecical issue was unavaidable. That only accounted for About 45 minutes of the diaster. The 2 hours was Amtrak self afflicted bad service.

Initially, I wanted to go online and make the changes to my reservation, but the website and the App allow you to change the date ONLY, not the time and the destination. I needed to change my outbound from NYP to ALB instead of NYP to SAR. The website and App are NOT convenient and user-friendly. I should be able to make the changes without having to call customer service. Lastly, I had to bite the bullet and call our customer service, and still, I have been on hold for 1hr and 44 minutes!!! Amtrak needs to do a better job in making the online and APP user-friendly. It will be 2 hours and I'm still on hold. Pretty depressing

Phone Callback Service

Called - requested call back. Hour and 20 minutes later...call back, then put on hold for 25 min. Hung up. Call Amtrak again, requesting a call back. Over an hour later, call back - then put on hold again with music and apologies for unexpected wait time...again. But after 20 minutes I gave up and will try again another day. Hint: I was trying to add a person to my roomette I had booked. Can't do it online. Thanks for wasting my time and giving me more reasons to hate Amtrak.

User's recommendation: Build a competitive railroad or buy the rights out from under Amtrak and do it right. They can't.

Bad Vacation Made Worse

Missed my train in part due to misinformation from Amtrak. Also am not able to log on the website and the toll free number has been busy for many days now. I couldn't get a hold of anyone and am ading for either a credit or refund.

Update: Amtrak gave me a complete refund. However, they still didn't notify me in any way.

Instead, I found out when I called my bank. Nice, but they still won't tell you what's going on.

Headphones? What Headphones?

I have heard it many times. During the announcements that are made there is mention that "Please use headphones if you are using an electronic device". I completely agree and enjoy not listening to people yapping on their phones or playing their music. Recently I was traveling from Washington to Philadelphia and I did not hear such an announcement. I asked the Conductor why no announcement was made to that effect. She stated that there was no policy of requesting people to use headphones or earbuds except in the quiet car. On my return trip, I noticed the same thing. No announcement about wearing headphones. I asked the Conductor on this trip, a nice young man, and he stated the same thing, pointing out that the old schedules and policies had it in there but sometime before 2000 it was removed. Some make the announcement since they want to promote a nice quiet atmosphere, but no policy exists anymore. I checked the very confusing website, and sure enough there was no mention of such a policy. I was also very disappointed with this nonsense about going "Cashless". I use cash everywhere I go. Thankfully I can get something to eat before and after my trip because everyone else accepts CASH.

I was traving from Santa Barbara on 3/15/20 on Thruway at 7:35 am and ti was very very cold that so when we gone half was i ask driver to please can u turn heater th ed bud is very COLD been early morning HE REPLIED GO SIT IN THE BACK HERE IN FRONT IT GETS FOGGY and that's damm lies ,i take same route once a month back and forth no one ever said that to me GO SIT IN THE BACK. We pay to ride bus and ride comfortably for 4hrs and I hope u people have talk w him.ma

Do not except to get a good meal on Amtrak anymore!!! PICNIC TRAIN!!

The Amtrak Rails have cut back on providing customers with the pleasure of riding the train and experiencing the Dining Cart. If you are planning on riding the train, your experience will be like riding on a PICNIC TRAIN. People will start pulling our large Igloo containers and sandwiches. The experience of sitting in the dining cart is no longer. For the 30 hours that my husband and I sat on the train was not what we expected. I will never put myself through that again and the bathrooms on each cart are NOT clean.

I think that Amtrak should have a McDonalds restaurant car on all of it's trains. I am sure that everyone would love eating the delicious fare.But the only issue would be that the greedy mudda fuddas at Amtrak would want to charge three times the normal price for everything, and I am sure that many people would balk at that,

Why not just *** a ride on a freight train like the hobos do. Just make sure that you always have a warm coat and a gallon of water with you at all times. And maybe a can of mace to spray on any bulls who may try hassle you.

New Carrolton Maryland, the PG County Homeless Shelter

I take the train pretty frequently. One of the helpful Conductors told me I should write about this experience after I complained to her about it. This station closes on Saturday and Sunday so that the homeless and destitute have a place to sleep. I was walking to my train and saw a man urinating on the wall on a Saturday. He just turned to me and laughed, walked a few steps and laid down to sleep. Completely disgusting! Amtrak needs to reopen this station during the weekends so that there is staff available to make this a decent place to catch a train again!
