Very responsive to customer needs

Except I got on the wrong train on my return. The gate checker did not check my ticket - just waved me down the escalator.

I could not read the train info on my ticket because it was too small. The train I got on was leaving late but was going to my destination, so I followed the announcement. My train was the 5:05 to Wash DC on 4/26. I got on the 4:05, which left at 4:15.

I had to pay an extra $20 or $30 as the earlier train was more expensive. I explained to customer service; had my ticket been checked before I boarded, that charge would not have been necessary.

Nasty, Dirty , Disgusting Trains

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner, should be ashamed of himself and his company. I took Amtrak for the first time since 1982 , when the trains were disgusting, dirty and filthy. I was on the same train on 1/24/25 and February 3, 2025 and I feel for the people who ride these filthy and disgusting trains. Both times the trains had no heat or internet and most of the conductors uniforms are dirty and dingy,. please tell me that they get a clothing allowance and yes they need some Tide Detergent and Heavy Bleach for the collars. Damn it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how to was a white shirt and just because the uniforms are blue dont mean they won't smell, if you don't wash your *** and Pants. At best you may be able to get away with wearing the uniforms 2-3 days at best if the employee does not sweat a lot. The union and my tax dollars must not mean a whole lot because imagine this is the winter time and I can smell those nasty uniforms, I could imagine how they smell in the spring and summer time?

Mr. Gardner, you need to ride your Nasty, Unsanitary Trains and you would clearly would see, they are even safe for homeless people to ride on. It took me using a entire of bag of Clorox bleach lemon wipes to get both my seats clean

on Train 86 and 93. Thankfully I am not limited to transportation but I will say this much, no one came on the train to clean either train during the exchange of engines in Washington. I see why people were wearing mask on the train. Gave a lady $5.00 for a mask the smell was horrible and the last thing, during the safety inspection by the Amtrak Police Officer, his damn uniform was Dirty and Dingy and he was out of uniform it ain't like they get under the train . I have seen my homeless people take pride in t appearances, maybe we need to go back to basics and make people earn their jobs...Cleary Amtrak and their prospective unions forgot about their upbringing, When you look and feel clean, you work better...

Guess, I'll be flying or driving to my destinations...

Respectful Much Needed Feedback

Lost luggage

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

On Feb 13th, 2025, I checked my bag with important expense reports, a laptop, and specialized work clothes after transporting the command center to the Palisades fire zone. I left my power unit in California to return home.

I took the #4 train to switch in Chicago to the #448 train to Rochester, New York, claim check: 02-66-02. This bag was stolen, and I lost valuable documents and tools for my employment as a high-value transporter. It happened right out of the security of checked baggage! Amtrak should not be an option to travel with this unprofessional approach to security!

Then, they offered me compensation of $100 for my inconvenience. This is a total insult to me as a professional transporter.

Do not travel Amtrak! You'll be making a mistake!

Loss:
$5000
Cons:
  • Worst security

User's recommendation: Don't Travel Amtrak

Dissatisfied customer

Customer Amtrak senior citizen ride once a month. Had an issue with my help had to cancel reservations until I can get someone to ride with me on a train.

It was a value ticket $7.65 was removed from the previous ticket and I was still charged the same $30.65 for another ticket on a different day my question was to the customer service representative if the ticket cost the same why do I have to pay additional seven dollars for the cancellation that was made 24 hours in advance customer service representative supervisor happen to be very nasty and told me that that's what the policy was so there was nothing I can do about it. My reason for writing this comment is that I write Amtrak once a month from Chicago to Michigan senior citizen with a disability that's not entitled to no discounts at all and it's better that if I ride with someone if I'm not feeling well to make Amtrak responsible for my health issues sad

Amtrak would NEVER be responsible for your health issues. You aren’t doing THEM a favor by traveling with someone.

Your medical info has no relevance to ticket price. Nor does a disability.

The policy is set and no one is rude because you don’t like the answer. If you don’t like how things are run, go where they operate as you expect.

We have been on this train sitting... No communication other than a bottle water and kiddie snacks.

Horrible Horrible Horrible!

Again, no one is making any announcements as to why we're just sitting here.

Booking trip and lost Help!

The automated answers were sooo very frustrating...and it was hard to get a live agent. When I finally did though, she was amazing and only took a few minutes to get my train ticket!!

Uncomfortable, smelly, expensive, and they continually beg you to come spend money at the cafe cart because it is plainly obvious that this is a failing company and business, and I for one cannot wait for them to go bankrupt.

Most unbearable experience of my life.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Some of the most UNCOMFORTABLE, STIFFEST AND DOWNRIGHT NOISIEST 26 hours of my life, going from Ocala to North Carolina, was not able to get a SECOND of sleep on any of the 4 vehicles I rode. Two trains and two busses.

Please save yourself the trouble and just fly, its faster and not worth the back pain.

User's recommendation: don’t. DO NOT.

Horrible Experience

Amtrak - Horrible Experience
Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives
Original review updated Jul 22, 2024

This was my very FIRST, round-trip train ride and it was a MISERABLE experience!

The train was an hour late picking us up to leave the terminal, and we ended up being more than FOUR HOURS LATE to our destination.

There was only a 15-minute delay leaving the destination, but once again we were FOUR to FIVE HOURS BEHIND SCHEDULE GETTING HOME!

Lastly, the roof was leaking from rain over my seat!!!

*** The only reason I gave two stars is because I did make it to my family member's funeral! But you know what?

That's because I caught the train a day ahead. ***

User's recommendation: Dress warm, bring a blanket, and take pain medications prior to boarding! Bring a blanket, a pillow, and patience!

An ADA NIGHTMARE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My elderly disabled Father likes the train. He revels in his remembrance that the train is a nice way to travel.

Conventional transportation is not feasible for our accommodations, due to his medical condition. We use your services for comfort, accessibility and views. Weve made this trip a few times and there is a trend. Your sleeping accommodations are filthy.

Please see attached pictures. Take extra care to clean and sanitize everything but especially your ADA rooms. What if someone didnt have any help, they would have been reliant on you to help. Please clean the windows.

We would like to partake in the nice scenery through clean windows. FiX your PA system, its terrible. We cant hear you. Considering most cars do not have WI-FI, this brings great anxiety to people.

I cant determine pertinent information easily and reassure an elderly person whom is freaking out, due to the unknown. So here is where it gets BAD. On our journey to NY, there were really bad storms, everyone understands this. Due to delays, we missed our connecting train in Chicago. Amtrak was nice enough to put us in a hotel for 2 nights.

I was advised by an Amtrak agent a shuttle would pick us up from our hotel. There was no shuttle. I had to make arrangements for us to get to station. After being dropped off at the construction entrance, Dad had a long walk from the street to the station.

He was exhausted. After the 2 day delay, we were absolutely devastated to first out that there we no longer had sleeper car access. Our ADA sleeper car was downgraded to Coach after the all inconveniences. I still dont understand why we lost this.

Something I paid for, needed. I was absolutely flabbergasted! I PAY THE MONEY FOR THE Convience OF PRIVACY. I am escorting my dying Father to make his last rounds.

I paid in full for these accommodations in January. To add injury to insult, the Coach seats were upstairs. Dad was beyond tired and I could see the look on his face. I almost started crying but I had to keep it together.

Attending Conductor offers, Ill let you sit downstairs in the lower level Coach but if anyone comes that has a proper ticket, would be required to move. Where is your compassion? This trip really did a number on my mind, body and spirit. Due to your negligence, my Father and I were stressed, uncomfortable and highly disappointed!

Ill spare you details of our last trip and how they lost our luggage and I had to purchase clothes when we got to our destination. I also missed a class due to this. I called back after the completed trip to finalize my complaint but was devised I not Amtrak had to contact corporate with a claim number to make any further requests. Its disgusting how you treat the folks keeping you in business!

DO BETTER!

Amidst all the chaos, I would like to thank some of your exceptional employees. Without them, we probably wouldnt have made it home.

REDCAP Service!

David

Dion

Garbriel

Many others but I didnt get their names, during the chaos.

User's recommendation: Make sure you have someone with you!
