Safety concern

After hearing about the young college student abused in California, I will no longer use Amtrak. While you can’t control passengers, the choice to not investigate this aggressively as a hate crime is unconscionable. I will choose to take my business elsewhere unless immediate action is taken. Sincerely, Concerned former passenger, friends and family

Rest Room lack of cleanliness

The restrooms are beyond unsanitary, urine everywhere, and a person has no choice but to use them. I was sick to my stomache to discover the right leg of my pants smelled like urine, I'm a woman it was embarassing. I had a two day ride. Brushing my teeth when I turned water on to spit mucus came up from drain a ton of it.Action needs to be taken on all of these situations immediately!!!!

I think that Amtrak should issue a sincere apology and also give you triple your money back for having to go through all of that. You would think with all of the money that they charge for their tickets that they would be able to hire someone whose sole job is to make sure that the restrooms is always nice and clean.

24/7 Delays

Right now I'm sitting at the station been here waiting for over 3 hours going on four. The Crescent train is late coming out of Atlanta heading to Philadelphia. The most irritating thing about all of this is that every time I have taken this train it's always delayed by 3 hours or more on the return trip. Due to this it will be my last time riding Amtrak. I would rather go Greyhound at least they are pretty good about getting you home on time.

Something tells me it's you not them...Typically people who start out a post by flashing a card(e.g. age, disability, gender, race and the ever popular vet )are entitled and want more than the cost of their ticket and have the crappiest of attitudes.

Passengers stink

Coach car smelled like *** for the entire trip from Los Angeles to Chicago. Not the fault of Amtrak, just nasty people who don't care enough about personal hygiene to shower and put on clean clothes before traveling. The car attendant tried and tried to cover the smell with air freshener, but you can't spray people. Its disgusting that people travel smeling like hot garbage.

I am n an Amtrak train now. One employee told me to get on a particular car, and the other employee rudely told me I did not have a ticket. Then, she told me I was on the wrong car, because the one I amon is “business class.” This is amusing, because the lady time I...

I can't believe these reviews. What does your ticket have written on it?

If it says Business class, then that's the car you ride in. Surely you made the reservation. It's just as plain and simple as that. I've ridden on Amtrak business class many times and never had a problem and never encountered rude personal.

Maybe it's you who's being rude and obnoxious?

Go write your congressman. I'm sure he'll get right on that.

Broken luggage cant get to medication

LUGGAGE was damaged and it wasn't noticeable until I tried to open the compartment to get my medication and found it is broken and cant open it. Amtrak was rude and said I should have checked it at the station. Had not checked because everything looked good until I tried for the compartment and it was broken . My son said he would have ot destroy luggage and itis best to call Amtrak directly. Called them and very rude and sent an email on their website that doesn't send a confirmation receipt. I never had to ever complain in my life about a bag/travel .

I'm trying to understand your complaint. If you did not check this bag with Amtrak, then it must have been in your possession all the time.

So if this compartment in your luggage did not open it must have been something you did. If the luggage was out of your possession during your trip, how do you know another passenger didn't do something to it. You just can't blame Amtrak if the luggage was never handled by them.

Maybe you should keep a closer eye on it next time.

When I travel Amtrak I never check my luggage and it has never once been damaged even leaving it in the baggage areas of the sleepers or the first class lounges.

@PissedConsumer1414592

If you do not fully understand their complaint, whyare you telling green what they should have done differently? I'm going to go ahead and assume they are only posting bevause the bag was indeed checked with Amtrak, that possibly they were sitting near the compartment and saw no one rough up the bag.

Sheesh. 'Watch it better yourself ' 'musta been some other passenger.' The author of the complaint doesn't seem to be an 'unreliable narrator' to me, and request of $65 for a bag doesn't smell of someone trying to scam Amtrak or being entitled.

#1413685

Not unusual. Happens often with common carriers like airlines, etc.

Just get it open and then throw it away. It's always best to not buy expensive luggage for this reason.

#1443939
@Machele

$65 is hardly expensive luggage. Not everyone has enough discretionary income to toss their luggage and buy new.

Frequent air traveller and habe only had luggage damaged once, and airline ponied up.

Once they lost my bags (international) and paid for contents and the bag. Glad i don't fly the same common carrier as you.

Unannounced Train

I bought my daughter a ticket from Boston to NYC Penn Station in late Nov 2017, one month before she was to take the train. I spent $140 for a one-way ticket on the Acela Express. She is 22 yrs old, and had to arrive early at her job in Manhattan on 12/27/17. When she was buying the ticket online, she was asked to fill-in the pop-up window with her beginning destination. She had a choice of South Station, Boston or Back Bay Station, Boston. She chose Back Bay because she thought it would be easier for me to drop her there. NO WHERE ON THIS CUSTOMER POP-UP WINDOW DOES IT SAY THAT BACK BAY IS NOT A DESIGNATED AMTRAK STATION. I dropped her off 45 mins before the train was due. She waited upstairs in the passenger waiting area. It was the day after Christmas. There were a few other passengers waiting for the same train. THERE WAS NO SIGN SAYING “Amtrak trains will not be announced.” Or “Please wait below at the track site.” She waiting thinking someone would announce her train and she would have a few minutes to get on the train. This is the procedure at South Station - they don’t want you out next to the train until the train arrives. So, she and several other passengers missed a train that they did not know had arrived. SO WE NOW DISCOVER AFTER THE FACT, THAT THIS IS A SUBWAY STOP, staffed only by MBTA employees who do not announce Amtrak trains. She and several other left-behind passengers got on the next regional train, which took them almost 6 hours to get to NYC. With no food. They did give her a business class seat, but this was not much of an upgrade on this particular train. It did not look like the Amtrak pictures of business class. When I called to complain to Customer Relations, I was given the stock answer “On the website, it clearly says that Back Bay is not a fully serviced Amtrak stop.” Even if she had seen this, what does this mean exactly? And where does it say this? Certainly not when the choices pop up in the buyer window. Then the customer relation person had the nerve to say this regional train was only one hour later than the Acela Express. I told him that “no” this train in fact got in almost 2 hrs later. There was no snack or food car either. At the very least, there should be a sign at the Back Bay Station letting passengers know that they should wait at the track below, and that Amtrak trains would “not” be called. She chatted with several other passengers who missed their trains also because they also did not know. In fact, it appeared that the Amtrak conductor was ready with a solution, that this had happened before. That he/she placed all these passengers in business class. So what does this imply?

Waiting, waiting, waiting

I'm currently sitting in an unmoving Amtrak train. A freight train in front of us has broken down and is waiting for a part. We were already an hour behind schedule. Now that's 2 hours. God knows how long we'll be sitting here. Only 29 mules from my destination. Of course, no ones given us an update. Why did I think it'd be a good idea to rake the train?

Same here waiting on the Crescent train 19 which is now running 4 hours late. Never again would rather walk than take Amtrak!

We are also sitting on an Amtrak train in Albuquerque now for 1 1/2hrs. No air conditioning.

Said they had to add more cars on for a new stop? Bathrooms are dirty.

Someone brought fish onboard to eat and the cars all smell. Our first trip on Amtrak and last.

Inconsiderate passengers

I am currently on a train from memphis to new orleans. These folk have a dang radio on. Snapping, dancing, yelling out. Other passengers trying to map. Oh no, they want to party. I have never seen such ignorance

They should have a separate car for all of the party people to ride in. They should have a separate car called the "Library Car" for people who are quiet and want to read or just ride in serenity and silence.

Any jerk who starts yakking away on a cell-phone in this car, shall be made to ride in the cell-phone-car, a train car full of idiots all talking on their cell-phones loudly for their entire trip. Their should be a separate car for people who want to bring along their dogs. The passengers could all happily ride their entire trip with their beloved dogs. There should be a car just for people who want to eat offensive foods like smelly tuna fish sandwiches, or who munch loudly on potato chips or slurp loudly or talk with their mouths open.

There should be a car just for the Amish, so that they can ride in peace without people staring at them for wearing their all black outfits and not wearing deodorant because it is against their religion. Their should be a "Talkers" car, just for people who like to have real loud conversations. They could all yap away real loudly to one another for the entire trip.

There could be a Boozers car for all of the drinkers, so that they could all merrily drink all the booze and liquor they wanted to and get loud and obnoxious with one another. There could be a "Sick Car" for all of the people with hacking coughs and sniffling and snorting noses, so that they could all be sick with one another and not infect all of the other passengers. And, of course, there could be a "Smokers" car for all of the smokers to all chain smoke for their entire trip.

These are the same people that give local DMV a bad reputation. They dont give a crap about their passengers, they are rude, non-caring and just overall extremely unprofessional. Even in their VIP Club Acela (in Penn Station NYC) they have a click, joking, laughling boisterius, very unprofessional attitude; more like a ghetto attitude to be honest
