Falling apart

As I wait for an incoming train at the Parkesburg station I am so embarrassed at the condition for this stop. It’s falling apart, overhead structure are ready to fall down, uneven surfaces to walk on . It’s horrible. Amtrak you should go to Norway and take lessons from them

You would think that with all the money they charge for tickets that they would have a decent station. At least Greyhound has a decent building to wait in that is structurally sound. But I guess that the gross stations are about what you can expect to get from something run by the government.

WHEN IS AMTRAK GOING TO RESTORE SERVICE ON SUNSET LIMITED TO ORANDO?

I remember when hurricane Katrina hiit, they said that alot of Amtrak railrway was damaged in Mississippi and Amtrak announced that were no longer going to be running the "Sunset Limited" train form New Orleans to Orlando no mo. I think that it is a shame and a national disgrace that Amtrak doesn't repair those rails so that folks can ride from Los Angeles all the Way to Orlando like they used to be able to do before Katrina. I think that President Trump should give funding to Amtrak to restore this wonderful train route. I never have ridden it myself, my I have read stories about it and it sounded pretty cool and neat.

Well, you can always go Greyhound. They serve that route.

Or you could get a train from New Orleans to Atlanta, stay overnight at a hotel at your expense, and then catch another train from Atlanta to wherever you want to go to in Florida. Or you could go down to your nearest Flying J Truck stop and go talk to the truck drivers and maybe you could find one of them willing to give you a ride down there for free.

But first you need to make sure that they aren't going to get mad if you don't want to accommodating to their needs. You don't wanna get picked up by a truck driver thinking that you have a ride to Florida, only to get put off on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere when he finds out that you don't want to do anything with him, like has happened to me more times than I can remember.

I think that not only should they restore service to orlando, but they should make it even better by extending the sunset limited all the way to Miami.

Highly dissatisfied and disgusted with this compan

My family of 6 purchased round-trip train tickets to Jackson, Mississippi; however the train never made it to Jackson, Mississippi due to the train breaking down. We incurred unnecessary expenses because we had to find alternative transportation to our destination, and Amtrak refuses to reimburse those expenses or refund the cost for one-way tickets since we paid to be transported to Jackson, Mississippi. Don't waste your time or money on this company. You're better off catching the bus.

Lake Charles Amtrak Station unmanned in isolated, high crime area

I have always wanted to take the Amtrak train from lake Charles, Louisiana to Essex junction, Vermont(the station for Burlington). I always ended up going Greyhound, because Amtrak told me that in order for me to take the train that I would have to stay overnight in both New Orleans and Washington, D.C. at my own expense. Both cities have been known as the "murder capital of america" for more than one year, new orleans for numerous years. Also, both cities are noted for having very high prices for motel rooms. And New Orleans may be fairly safe in the French Quarter, but is very dangerous everywhere else. So, I never did take the Amtrak, although I was very willing to pay the extra expense of the ticket. Also, the train only passes through Lake Charles going east 3 times a week and the station where you catch the train is unstaffed and is in an isolated area along the railroad tracks, in a real high crime rate part of town. I would be scared that someone would walk up to me, pull a gun, and rob me of all of my money, with no one around to witnesses it or to help me . Also, it scares me how so many Amtrak trains have derailed before. I'd still be willing to pay the high cost of the ticket, and wait at an Unmanned station in an isolated area, but I am not willing to stay overnight in New Orleans and Washington, D.C. That would cost more money than the train ticket!

You should have just taken the trip anyway and hung out and slept in the New Orleans and Washington train terminals. If security had tried to roust you, you could have just showed them your train ticket and explained that you were sleeping in the train station because you didn't have enough money for a hotel.

You could have looked upon it as being an adventure. Surely, it would have been more comfortable than sleeping in your seat on the Greyhound Bus.

Why, you should just try hopping the trains for free 'Hobo Style". Just make sure that you always have a real warm coat and a gallon of water with you at all times. Often, you can find a free boxcar full of hoboes to ride with and can enjoy sharing stories about all of your traveling adventures.

I wrote the above review. This is in response to T.J.

that sarcastically said that I think that Amtrak should run a special train for me, or that they should pay for my hotel stays in New Orleans and Washington D.C. I really wanted to ride the train, but I was in a hurry to get back to Vermont and i didn't have time to be staying overnight two places along the way. I was currently living in Burlington, Vermont and very much wanted to take the train, but I was on a limited budget and while I could have come up with the extra money for the train fare, I couldn't afford to spend like $200 a night in both New Orleans and Washington, D.C. and pay for cab fare to the hotels also.

I had been used to living in the safest state in America, Vermont, and everything that I heard about all of the violent crimes in New Orleans and Washington D.C. scared the Bejesus out of me. I have read alot of travel literature and was well aware that New Orleans and Washington D.C. were near the top of the list for being places where hotels were expensive.

I am sure that if I had stayed at a "No Frills" or 'Budget" or "Economy" motel in either city, that it would have costed me more than $100 a night, plus it likely would have been in a high crime area where I would have very likely to have been mugged. And T.J. implied that I need to get a life, and that life is full of surprises. Well, I have had a very eventful life full of wonderful surprises on my very many travels, and I have met alot of very extremely interesting people and had very many very interesting experiences.

I loved living in Burlington, Vermont very much because it was so beautiful and everyone was so nice and friendly and because it had the lowest crime rate in the country. For many years I would hear how both New Orleans and Washington D.C. were given the designation as the "Murder capital of America" because they had a higher murder rate per capita than any other city in the United States. I think that T.J.

needs to get a life and stop leaving sarcastic comments to people's reviews. I have very many traveling stories and adventures to share my stories about, and I don't just do the same boring trip every year like T.J. says that he or she does. And I'm sure if they had told T.J.

that he or she would have had to have stayed overnight in both Chicago and Detroit along the way, that T.J. would have gone Greyhound instead as well.

My wonderful life has been full of many surprises and I am very glad that I got to have so many wonderful adventures. God Bless America!

#1542337

Why don't you just get an airplane ticket if it is going to cost you so much money staying in hotels along the way?

#1542324

Why are the stations unmanned?

#1542307

I am always concerned about people who ride on Amtrak trains, as they seem to often be in an awful lot of accidents. It seems to be a very dangerous way to travel.

#1542301

No wonder Amtrak is always losing so much money and they are talking about shutting it down!

#1541180

Maybe Amtrak should run a special train just for you or maybe pay for your hotel bills in the layover cities. I can't take Amtrak direct from Joliet, IL to Reading, Pa but yet every year I manage to get there by a number of trains and a rental car.

Life is full of surprises. Why don't you get one.

#1540217

I agree with you, *** Amtrak and their dangerous isolated stations!

Website doesn’t work

Tried checking train ticket prices on their website. Spent some time trying a bunch of different things to get it to display train options, but it just brought me back to the same page. Finally gave up and booked a plane ticket instead. Probably cheaper than Amtrak too. Amtrak is worthless

Employe driving

Why is it every morning driving to work I get passed by two to three Amtrak trucks driving well over the spend limit.? I work for a good size company. That has GPS on their company vehicles. They know where the vehicles are and what speed they are traveling. I can only go five miles over the speed limit to conserve gas. My question is with Amtrak receiving tax payers money, why doesn’t Amtrak have something similar?

Talk-A-Lot

Think Music Man...one man was on his phone the entire time talking fast and loud while the rest of got to enjoy the conversation from just one side. He just talked and talked and talked. Loudly. Why? Is this the same as two humans chatting together? Is it any different than two people hacking it up? Maybe. Yet, cell phones are acceptable regardless where we are with no regulations. Should there be some just out of respect of others? Maybe.

First, please don't consider this "Poor Customer Care" since your complaint involves other passengers and not the Amtrak crews. Amtrak did not provide you poor customer service, your fellow travelers lose all sense of respect and courtesy once that cell phone goes up to their ear.

I see it too, and it's really annoying. Amtrak used to have a rule about being loud. That rule has since been revoked and it is permissible to make pretty much whatever noise you wish...with one exception. The Quiet Car.

I praise the crews that enforce the Quiet Car. Many occasions, people have sat in this blessed haven of quiet and started yapping away without even considering that they are in a silent sanctuary. Once, the Conductor came in and reminded someone that they were in the quiet car and had to exit if they wanted to use their phone. The person agreed but once the conductor left, he started chatting it up again.

Just to get the point across, I hit him over the head with my walker. I told him that the nice man had just told him politely to shut the **** up.

So I just encountered Claude and immediately said I need to buy a ticket from you because I was running to the station to catch the train at BWI and knew I could just pay more on train and didn’t care. He took my ID and credit card and returned a while later shouting to everyone the police was waiting for me in DC!!!???

Like I was trying to not pay or something when I ride It about every week and even showed him all my etickets. Like 10 police came and interrogated me and finally escorted me to the ticket booth to buy a ticket and informed me there would be a police report. Not only is Claude psycho and unstable he lied and was sneaky.

Clearly unstable and racist as well. Will never ever ride Amtrak again and I’m calling to file an official complaint with Amtrak ASAP!!!!
